Approving requests in My Team
The My Team dashboard is built around one job: dealing with what is waiting on you.
Where: My Team › Dashboard You need: to be an approver, or the rights to act on others' behalf
What is on the dashboard
Alongside the approvals inbox, the dashboard tracks the things that need attention on a 30-day horizon:
- Recently hired — who joined in the last 30 days
- Ending probation — in the next 30 days
- Contract expiring — in the next 30 days
- Pending separation — in the next 30 days
Plus key dates for the next 14 days and a team activity feed. The probation and contract counts are the two worth checking weekly, because both have a deadline that passes whether or not anyone acts.
Two numbers, and the difference matters
The approvals inbox shows both:
- Awaiting your approval — requests where you are the assigned approver
- Pending across the company — everything outstanding, which you may be able to
approve on behalf of the assigned approver
The tab badge counts only the first. So the badge can read 1 while the inbox shows 40 pending — that is not a discrepancy, it is the difference between your decisions and all decisions.
Approving on behalf of someone else
Where you have the rights, you can approve a request assigned to somebody else. This exists because approvals otherwise stall whenever an approver is on leave, has left, or was never correctly assigned.
It is a useful escape hatch and worth treating as one:
- Use it when someone is genuinely blocked — an approver on leave, a request routed to
someone who has left.
- Do not use it as routine. If you are regularly approving on someone's behalf, the
approval route is pointing at the wrong person. Fix the route rather than compensating for it every week.
Approving on behalf is recorded like any other change and shows in the Audit Trail.
What comes through
- New employee requests — profiles awaiting sign-off before the person becomes active
- Data change requests — edits to existing profiles
- Document approvals — uploaded documents needing review
- Documents for you to sign
New employee requests are the ones that block someone else's work: until approved, the joiner cannot be set up.
If your queue is always full
- Are you the right approver? Being named on many routes may be a historical accident.
- Are you being notified? If you only discover requests by visiting, check
- Is the same request type dominating? A flood of data change requests may mean people
lack the rights to edit something they legitimately should.
