Enrolling learners and tracking progress
Enrolment connects people to learning paths, and progress tracking tells you whether it worked. The useful distinction throughout is between training people were assigned and training they chose.
Where: LMS › Team learning You need: the rights to manage team learning
Two sources of enrolment
| Source | Means |
|---|---|
| Admin | Someone assigned the path |
| Self | The learner enrolled themselves |
This is recorded on every enrolment, and it is what makes completion figures interpretable.
💡 Read the two separately, always. A 60% completion rate on assigned training is a compliance problem you must fix. The same 60% on self-selected training is people browsing, and is not a problem at all. Combining them into one number tells you nothing about either.
Assigning a path
- Open LMS › Team learning and choose the path.
- Assign it to the people or group who need it.
- They see it in My Learning immediately.
Only open paths can be enrolled in. If a path is not available to assign, check its status.
Tracking progress
Progress is visible at three levels:
| Level | Shows |
|---|---|
| Path | Not started, in progress, completed |
| Module | The same three, per lesson |
| Assessment | Passed or failed, per attempt |
Module-level detail is the useful one. A learner stuck at the same module for weeks is a different problem from one who has not started — the first suggests the module is too hard, too long or broken; the second is a prompting problem.
If several people stall at the same module, the module is the problem, not the learners. That pattern is the most valuable thing this screen tells you.
What Happens Next
- Enrolled learners see the path in My Learning.
- Progress records as they complete modules.
- Completing every module completes the path and can issue a certificate.
- Editing a path affects people currently taking it, including their progress totals.
Tips
- Assign mandatory training explicitly rather than hoping people find it. Only an admin enrolment gives you a defensible completion figure.
- Set a deadline outside the system and communicate it. The LMS records progress; it does not chase.
- Review stalled modules monthly. Repeated stalls at one module are a content problem you can fix.
- Do not add modules to a path people are part-way through. Their progress percentage drops and they lose confidence in it.
- Check completion before relying on it for compliance. "Completed" means every module was marked done — if the assessments have no pass mark, it does not mean anyone learned anything. See Module content and assessments.
Troubleshooting / FAQ
Q: I cannot assign a path. Check its status is Open.
Q: A learner does not see their assigned path. Confirm the enrolment exists and the path is open.
Q: Everyone's progress dropped. Modules were added to the path. The denominator changed.
Q: Someone completed the path but has no certificate. Only paths with a certificate template issue one.
Q: Can I re-enrol someone who has completed a path? Yes, as an admin enrolment — useful for annual refreshers.
Q: Completion is high but people clearly did not learn it. Check whether the assessments have a passing score. Without one, any score passes.
