The payroll dashboard
The payroll dashboard is the list of your payroll runs and the state each is in. It is where a payroll period starts and where you check, at a glance, that nothing has been left half-finished.
Where: Payroll You need: payroll rights for at least one batch cycle
What it shows
Every payroll run you have access to, with its period and its status. Runs belong to batch cycles, so what you see depends on which cycles you have been given access to — two people in the same company can legitimately see different lists.
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Open | Created, work in progress |
| Pending | Awaiting calculation or review |
| Verified | Checked by the preparer |
| Approved | Signed off |
| Closed | Finalised |
| Paid | Money released |
| On Hold | Held pending review |
Reading it well
The dashboard's value is not the run you are working on — you know about that one. It is the runs you have stopped thinking about.
A run that is not Paid is not finished. An approved-but-unpaid run from two months ago means somebody's money did not move, or the record of it did not. Either is worth knowing.
A batch that will not close is usually holding one unpaid or on-hold payslip. The dashboard is where you notice it is still open at all.
What to do here
- Open the current period's run to work on it — see Running a payroll batch cycle.
- Scan older runs for anything not Closed or Paid.
- Check on-hold payslips across runs — see the on-hold payslips view.
- Open reports from here for anything spanning multiple runs.
What Happens Next
- Opening a run gives you its Overview, Payslips, Wages, Others, Compare and Payment tabs.
- A run stays visible after it is paid, because it is the record of that period.
- Reopening a closed batch makes the period live again — an exception, not a routine correction.
Tips
- Look at the dashboard at the start of every cycle, not just the middle. Unfinished runs are invisible from inside the run you are working on.
- Chase anything unpaid before it is a month old. The people who can explain what happened are still around and still remember.
- Check the on-hold count. Held payslips are deliberate decisions that expire quietly — somebody is waiting to be paid.
- If you cannot see a run you expect, it is batch access rather than a missing run. See Payroll user rights.
Troubleshooting / FAQ
Q: I cannot see a payroll run a colleague can. You do not have access to that batch cycle.
Q: An old run is still Open. It was never closed. Check for unpaid or on-hold payslips in it.
Q: There is no run for this period. Runs are created against a batch cycle. Check the cycle exists and covers the period.
Q: A run shows a different total from the report. Reports filter by payslip status. Check which status the report was run on.
